A gratitude table that starts good conversations

Give everyone a small, specific reason to feel welcome with folded name cards and optional conversation prompts.

25 minutes active, estimatedLow mess6 place cards and 6 conversation cards

Extra time: None

Make it, one step at a time.

  1. Print the cards

Print the gratitude table template on ordinary paper or cardstock your printer supports. Use the first sheet for folded names and the remaining sheets for notes and prompts.

  2. Write something specific

Add a name and one short compliment: “You always make room for someone new” or “I loved our walk together.” If you do not know a guest well, write “So glad you are here.”

  3. Set up before food arrives

Fold each name card at its center line. Put the notes beside the settings and spread the conversation cards within easy reach. Keep paper away from candles and hot dishes.

  4. Invite, never require

Ask whether anyone wants to read a prompt or draw an answer. Passing, answering privately, or simply listening are equally welcome. Avoid making gratitude a performance.

  5. Save only what people choose

Offer an envelope for take-home notes. Ask before photographing or keeping anyone else’s writing; a private message does not need to become social content.

The simpler version

Write one sentence on a plain folded index card. The thought matters more than matching stationery.

A little help goes a long way

Offer large writing, a thick pen, or someone to write down a dictated answer. Do not pressure anyone to speak or explain why they pass.

Before you begin

Avoid prompts about money, pregnancy, relationships, or personal struggles. Keep compliments kind and specific without comparing guests.
