Before the invitations

  • Agree on the audience, budget, theme and rule version.
  • Ask about dietary, scent and accessibility preferences privately.
  • Clarify whether handmade, regifted or secondhand gifts are welcome.

Your 60-minute setup plan

  • Put the gift pile where everyone can see it. Clear a space for opened gifts.
  • Print and cut 12 draw numbers, plus a rules sign. Set out pens and a bowl.
  • Keep two spare wrapped gifts out of sight for a forgotten-gift moment.
  • Choose a number caller and a helper to mark the two-steal cards.
  • Add mystery-gift clues or Bingo. Make the activity optional.

A loose order for the evening

Welcome and settle in → explain the house rules → exchange gifts → optional giver reveal → food, conversation and a kind award.

Allow roughly 36–60 minutes for the exchange. This is an editable planning estimate, not a guarantee.

Ask about food, scent and accessibility preferences. The joke is the object, never a guest or what they spent.

YOU’RE INVITED: Cozy Chaos Club
A Merry Little Gift Heist

Date to be confirmed · Time to be confirmed (host’s local time)
Venue to be confirmed

Bring one wrapped gift within a $20.00 USD spending ceiling. Spending less is welcome. Choose a new or handmade gift unless the host has agreed otherwise.
Theme: A small comfort for a cozy evening: a puzzle, favorite hot-drink ingredients or a useful reading accessory.
Ask the host before bringing a regift.

OUR HOUSE RULES — FRIENDLY TWO-STEAL EXCHANGE
1. Draw one number per participant. Player 1 chooses and opens a wrapped gift. Keep it visible so everyone knows what is available.
2. On your numbered turn, open a new wrapped gift OR take an eligible opened gift. A person whose gift is taken chooses again until someone opens a wrapped gift; that ends the turn.
3. A gift can be taken only once during the same turn. No immediate steal-back. After a gift has been stolen twice during the whole game, it is frozen and cannot move again. Its first opening does not count as a steal.
4. When everyone holds a gift, Player 1 may make one final direct swap, but only if BOTH gifts are unfrozen. There is no further chain of steals. Then the game ends.
5. Passing on performance prompts is always fine. Keep the jokes about the surprising object, never about the giver, their budget or a guest.

Ask about food, scent and accessibility preferences. The joke is the object, never a guest or what they spent.
Please reply directly to the host with your attendance and any needs they should know. No need to post private details publicly.

Optional fun: Invite festive sweaters or pajamas, put the kettle on, and award Best Cozy Sales Pitch. Clothing themes are optional.
